Here is a very old vintage Rotating Bookshelf that I have rescued from the tip.
I believe the person who was going to dispose of the item was not aware of its value.
It has been given a new lease on life and looks beautiful once again.
When we returned from our long planned and enjoyable European holiday a few years ago,
my husband received the bad news on our way home from the airport.
A simple text, send thoughtlessly from his employer, telling him that he didn’t needed to come back to work.
Apparently, the relieve person he had so carefully selected and trained, was just too good and sooo much cheaper.
From one minute to the next, out of work, what an ending to a wonderful trip.
As I had only been temping for years, I had no work to fall back on, amazingly NO booking came for me either.
I rang one Child Care Centre after another, I was doing relieve work in Child Care, however there was no work offer.
We applied for job after job, with $ 400 rent to pay weekly and no income, our savings were eaten up quickly.
We came back in January, by late February we needed to do something drastic as there was no work, no income, no Social Security. If you have more than $400 in the Bank, there is no help for you from the Government. Well, that all makes so much sense. (not)
We packed up all our belongings and stored most of the gear; and moved in temporarily with some friends. We applied for job after job, walked the streets, drove from business to business, there was no end in sight.
After some weeks, unsuccessful in the job-hunt, we moved to stay with some other friends, one should not overstay the welcome and again applied for job after job, a different area this time. There was not even an interview for my husband, however I had some Child Care work offered to me and as soon as I started, I had work for most of every week. However from this income one can not live, not to mention to pay rent, electricity, buy food, Rego and petrol, all necessary to go to work.
At the end of April we made a decision, if nothing would turn up by the beginning of May, we would pack our car and go west.
We had heard that in WA are more jobs, however one had to be in WA to get considered.
So we packed up and started on our long journey to WA, leaving children and grandchildren, friends and colleagues behind.
We arrived in WA during a very bad weather period, storms, rain and misery.
We could not even find a bed for the first night and ended up in something like a brothel.
What a welcome to WA that was.
The accommodation is very expensive in WA, as are groceries and anything else. The only thing that is
cheaper is the car Rego.
We found a cabin in a caravan park, where we stayed for 3 nights, that is all what we could find, $ 175 per night, this was most basic and very old, nothing flash. In Perth rental accommodation is very scarce, very expensive and prospective tenants bid for rentals like in an auction and offer more rent just to get accepted.
One of the ladies in Admin at the Caravan Park offered us her B&B she operated with her husband for$ 50 a night which was a huge improvement. However we could see our savings just draining away.
Every day we went into the city applying for work, going from one industrial area to the next.
My Child Care qualifications are not valid in WA and proved useless, so I went back to
apply for office work. Just 4 weeks after we arrived in WA I found work with a non for Profit Organization.
I was so elated, however with my badly payed work, we would not be able to pay rent. My income would just not be enough.
We were looking for other options as my husband still had no success in finding work. This time we set a deadline of 4 weeks in which to find work for my husband or come up with a different solution. If nothing happened and nothing changed after 4 weeks, we would go back to Qld. Our finances would just about allow us to travel back to Qld and that would be it.
As some of our friends had done some house-sitting for more than 10 years, we thought that this would be ideal to bridge our financial situation.
Just speaking plain English, we were on the street with nowhere to go, homeless.
Finding house sitting positions was no too difficult, however to be in driving distance to my work in the city was.
It was at times very enjoyable, we got to know every corner of Perth and its Suburbs.
We house sat very modern homes, with cats, dogs, fish and all of the above.
We house sat my dream cottage, right in the centre of Perth, wonderful in Summer, nice and cool, when we were called back to do it again 6 month later, I was not so impressed, dark, cold and uninviting. So I am over owning one of these very old homes in Perth.
A few month later my husband found work, 50 km’s south of Perth.
After house-sitting for 18 month, we finally rented our own place and settled down.
Would we do it again? Yes, we would. House sitting served it’s purpose, helped us over a very tied spot and kept us from sleeping on the street.
There have been a few occasions when the next house sit came just in the nick of time.
With a bit of determination and will to survive, one can overcome any tied spot.
Mind you, at times it was not easy to stay positive, when all was against you.
Last Year I have started with a new hobby, which has by now almost taken over our lives.
I have been restoring old, vintage and antique furniture into a French Provincial Style.
This turned out to be a lot of fun and people are amazed by the outcome.
I have all the “before” and ”after” photos just to show that the time I have spend is worth my while.
Well, yes, to this day I have not sold a single piece, however I am sure it will happen. And it will have to happen soon as I have a table and chairs on hold that I would like to buy and get my hands on, with some items I can so see the end result that I can hardly wait to get started.
Our house is by now running over with furniture, some are looking so amazing that we will have a hard time parting with them.
Items can be made to order too, I would love to transform an item for someone else. It is so much fun, and yes, it is a lot of work too.
So here are some of my “before” and “after” photos so you can judge for yourself. Let me know what you think. Lets get started with a Queen Anne Dressing Table
Next is a cupboard that people thought “why on earth is she getting THAT?”
“After”, well it is hard to believe that this is the same item, however it is.
I will post more, so please stay tuned.
Here are some photos of meals we have had during the last few month. Some ideas on presentation I guess.
Some are fancy, others rustic, they have all been delicious though.
How many folks do you know who say they don’t want to drink anything
before going to bed because they’ll have to get up during the night!!
Heart Attack and Water – I never knew all of this! Interesting…….
Something else I didn’t know … I asked my Doctor why do people need to
urinate so much at night time. Answer from my Cardiac Doctor –
Gravity holds water in the lower part of your body when you are upright
(legs swell). When you lie down and the lower body (legs and etc) seeks
level with the kidneys it is then that the kidneys remove the water
because it is easier. This then ties in with the last statement!
I knew you need your minimum water to help flush the toxins out of your
body, but this was news to me.
Correct time to drink water… Very Important.
From A Cardiac Specialist!
Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body:
2 glasses of water after waking up – helps activate internal organs
1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal – helps digestion
1 glass of water before taking a bath – helps lower blood pressure
1 glass of water before going to bed – avoids stroke or heart attack
Please pass this to the people you
I can also add to this… My Physician told me that water at bed time will
also help prevent night time leg cramps. Your leg muscles are seeking
hydration when they cramp and wake you up with a Charlie Horse.
Subject: Mayo Clinic on Aspirin – PASS IT ON
Mayo Clinic Aspirin Dr. Virend Somers, is a Cardiologist from the Mayo
Clinic, who is lead author of the report in the July 29, 2008 issue of the
Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
Most heart attacks occur in the day, generally between 6 A.M. and noon
Having one during the night, when
the heart should be most at rest, means that something unusual happened.
Somers and his colleagues have been working for a decade to show that
sleep apnea is to blame.
1. If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day, take it at night.
The reason: Aspirin has a 24-hour “half-life”; therefore, if most heart
attacks happen in the wee hours of the morning, the Aspirin would be
strongest in your system.
2. FYI, Aspirin lasts a really long time in your medicine chest for years,
(when it gets old, it smells like vinegar).
Please read on.
Something that we can do to help ourselves – nice to know.
Bayer is making crystal aspirin to dissolve instantly on the tongue.
They work much faster than the tablets.
Why keep Aspirin by your bedside? It’s about Heart Attacks –
There are other symptoms of a heart attack, besides the pain on the left
arm. One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as
nausea and lots of sweating; however, these symptoms may also occur less
Note: There may be NO pain in the chest during a heart attack.
The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack during their
sleep did not wake up.
However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep
If that happens, immediately dissolve two aspirins in your mouth and
swallow them with a bit of water.
Afterwards: – Call 000 – Phone a neighbor or a family member who lives
very close by.
– Say “heart attack!” – Say that you have taken 2 Aspirins. – Take a seat
on a chair or sofa near the front door, and wait for their arrival and
…DO NOT LIE DOWN!
I have already shared this information. What about you?
Do forward this message. It may save lives!
Life is a one-time gift”
Why are we not aware of this? It’s because some big corporation want to get back their money spent on years of research by trying to make a synthetic version of it for sale.
So, since you know it now, you can help a friend in need by letting him know or just drink some sour sop juice yourself as prevention from time to time. The taste is not bad after all. It’s completely natural and definitely has no side effects. If you have the space, plant one in your garden.
The other parts of the tree are also useful.
The next time you have a fruit juice, ask for a sour sop.
How many people died in vain while this billion-dollar drug maker concealed the secret of the miraculous Graviola tree?
This tree is low and is called graviola ! in Brazi l, guanabana in Spanish and has the uninspiring name “soursop” in English. The fruit is very large and the subacid sweet white pulp is eaten out of hand or, more commonly, used to make fruit drinks, sherbets and such.
The principal interest in this plant is because of its strong anti-cancer effects. Although it is effective for a number of medical conditions, it is its anti tumor effect that is of most interest. This plant is a proven cancer remedy for cancers of all types.
Besides being a cancer remedy, graviola is a broad spectrum antimicrobial agent for both bacterial and fungal infections, is effective against internal parasites and worms, lowers high blood pressure and is used for depression, stress and nervous disorders.
If there ever was a single example that makes it dramatically clear why the existence of Health Sciences Institute is so vital to Americans like you, it’s the incredible story behind the Graviola tree..
The truth is stunningly simple: Deep within the Amazon Rainforest grows a tree that could literally revolutionize what you, your doctor, and the rest of the world thinks about cancer treatment and chances of survival. The future has never looked more promising.
Research shows that with extracts from this miraculous tree it now may be possible to:
* Attack cancer safely and effectively with an all-natural therapy that does not cause extreme nausea, weight loss and hair loss
* Protect your immune system and avoid deadly infections
* Feel stronger and healthier throughout the course of the treatment
* Boost your energy and improve your outlook on life
The source of this information is just as stunning: It comes from one of America ‘s largest drug manufacturers, th! e fruit of over 20 laboratory tests conducted since the 1970’s! What those tests revealed was nothing short of mind numbing… Extracts from the tree were shown to:
* Effectively target and kill malignant cells in 12 types of cancer, including colon, breast, prostate, lung and pancreatic cancer..
* The tree compounds proved to be up to 10,000 times stronger in slowing the growth of cancer cells than Adriamycin, a commonly used chemotherapeutic drug!
* What’s more, unlike chemotherapy, the compound extracted from the Graviola tree selectivelyhunts
down and kills only cancer cells.. It does not harm healthy cells!
The amazing anti-cancer properties of the Graviola tree have been extensively researched–so why haven’t you heard anything about it? If Graviola extract is
One of America ‘s biggest billion-dollar drug makers began a search for a cancer cure and their research centered on Graviola, a legendary healing tree from the Amazon Rainforest.
Various parts of the Graviola tree–including the bark, leaves, roots, fruit and fruit-seeds–have been used for centuries by medicine men and native Indi! ans in S outh America to treat heart disease, asthma, liver problems and arthritis. Going on very little documented scientific evidence, the company poured money and resources into testing the tree’s anti-cancerous properties–and were shocked by the results. Graviola proved itself to be a cancer-killing dynamo.
But that’s where the Graviola story nearly ended.
The company had one huge problem with the Graviola tree–it’s completely natural, and so, under federal law, not patentable. There’s no way to make serious profits from it.
It turns out the drug company invested nearly seven years trying to synthesize two of the Graviola tree’s most powerful anti-cancer ingredients. If they could isolate and produce man-made clones of what makes the Graviola so potent, they’d be able to patent it and make their money back. Alas, they hit a brick wall. The original simply could not be replicated. There was no way the company could protect its profits–or even make back the millions it poured into research.
As the dream of huge profits evaporated, their testing on Graviola came to a screeching halt. Even worse, the company shelved the entire project and chose not to publish the findings of its research!
Luckily, however, there was one scientist from the Graviola research team whose conscience wouldn’t let him see such atrocity committed. Risking his career, he contacted a company that’s dedicated to harvesting medical plants from the Amazon Rainforest and blew the whistle.
When researchers at the Health Sciences Institute were alerted to the news of Graviola,! they be gan tracking the research done on the cancer-killing tree. Evidence of the astounding effectiveness of Graviola–and its shocking cover-up–came in fast and furious….
….The National Cancer Institute performed the first scientific research in 1976. The results showed that Graviola’s “leaves and stems were found effective in attacking and destroying malignant cells.” Inexplicably, the results were published in an internal report and never released to the public…
….Since 1976, Graviola has proven to be an immensely potent cancer killer in 20 independent laboratory tests, yet no double-blind clinical trials–the typical benchmark mainstream doctors and journals use to judge a treatment’s value–were ever initiated….
….A study published in the Journal of Natural Products, following a recent study conducted at Catholic University of South Korea stated that one chemical in Graviola was found to selectively kill colon cancer cells at “10,000 times the potency of (the commonly used chemotherapy drug) Adriamycin…”
….The most significant part of the Catholic University of South Korea report is that Graviola was shown to selectively target the cancer cells, leaving healthy cells untouched. Unlike chemotherapy, which indiscriminately targets all actively reproducing cells (such as stomach and hair cells), causing the often devastating side effects of nausea and hair loss in cancer patients.
…A study at Purdue University recently found that leaves from the Graviola tree killed cancer cells among six human cell lines and were especially effective against prostate, pancreatic and lung cancers Seven years of silence broken–it’s finally here!”
